Kasey Elise Walker is a Black American writer, director, and actress born and raised in South Los Angeles, CA. She co-wrote and starred in The Dispute, a short film that screened out of competition at both Sundance and SXSW in 2019. The film was named Short of the Week, earned a Vimeo Staff Pick, and was acquired by Riley Keough’s Felix Culpa and Donald Glover’s Gilga for feature development, where it was retitled Too Many Hoops. In 2021, she won the Soho Script Lab with her short film Hoop Dreams, which marked her directorial debut and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022. She went on to direct projects for Nike, Grammy-winning artist Tyla, TikTok, and Puma. She was invited to be the Artist in Residence at Mara Brock Akil’s Writers Colony and, most recently, took her feature project, Too Many Hoops, through the Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab, where she was named 2025’s Comedy Fellow, the Breakthrough Focus Features Fellow, received Walt Disney’s Project Advancement Grant Award, and was invited to participate in Gotham Week Project Market. At the top of 2026, she was recognized internationally at CineMart Rotterdam and the Berlinale Co-Production Market.
